Geothermal water heating is done using the natural warmth provided by the earth to cool or heat the water. Distribution of hot water to multiple buildings is possible by this system. In recent times geothermal heating is often referred to the frequent heating and cooling that is obtained with the help of geothermal heat pump. Heat exchanger enables the heating and cooling process. This system can be operated on the simple premises. Heat pump makes use of the heat available on the surface of the earth in winter and replaces the heat back in to the ground during summer.
Geothermal heating is completely different from the boiler and conventional furnace due to the ability of heat transfer. The main benefit of geothermal heating is that electricity produced from the renewable source of energy is used here. Renewable energy from solar power and wind power can be used effectively for heating water and spaces. Geothermal water heating does not require high and rare components of technology. In countries like New Zealand and Iceland water heating is done mostly with the help of geothermal heating.
Safety precautions must be adopted to ensure house owner's safety. Geothermal water heating systems have the potential to explode and cause certain amount of damage to the owners if the devices are not installed properly. Safety device, which is known as the temperature and pressure relief valve, should be fitted on the top of the water heater. Discharge pipes should be connected to the valve to regulate the flow of hot water. Certain building codes permit the discharge pipe in to the garage. Installation of water heaters inside the garage requires certain specifications. Elevation of 18 inches above the surface of the floor is essential to avoid risk due to fire or explosion. Pressure relief valve must be installed to avoid the accumulation of pressure inside the pipe of the water heater or valves.
The skin of humans is easily susceptible to burns at high levels of temperatures. Children and old people face serious problems because of their disability. Some of the western countries often install a tempering valve on the external pipe of the water heater. The tempering valve mixes ample cold water with the hot water. Hot water is not required for sanitation purposes. Residential dish washing machines need additional element for water heating to raise the temperature of water that has been supplied by the water heaters.
