During the Roman Times, geothermal heating system was the method popularly used for the purpose of heating. Hot water and steam near the surface of the earth was utilized for the purpose of heating. It is also known as ground source heating source pumps. The supply of heat energy is steadily captured and moved from the earth.
After the installation of the geothermal energy the owner of the building conserves the energy thereby saving certain amount of money every month. Pollution caused due to the fossil fuels will be reduced to a great extent. Geothermal heating system is highly cost effective and helps in saving a lot of money on a long term basis. Resources are getting exhausted very quickly due to the modern development in the field of technology. Hence many countries are searching for a better alternative that is cost effective. Geothermal system proves to be a better alternative and an economical method of heating system.
Multiple distributions of hot steam and water are possible to the buildings with the help of geothermal resources. Though this technique is practiced by most of the countries in the world this method of tapping energy from the surface of the ground is popularly used in Reykjavik Iceland Idaho Boise USA. The geothermal heating system is called Oregon. In geo thermal heating system the earth is used as a source of heat and sink. The heat pump of the earth is connected with the series of pipes called loops. Loops are mainly divided in to two main types. They are closed and open loops. Open loop system is the easiest method of geothermal heating system. Some of the countries have successfully practiced it. With the help of aquifer, ground water is drawn from a well and it is passed through the heat exchanger of the heat pump and is later discharged through the same to the second well. Two or three gallons may be required for the heat exchange to be effective. Open loops have gained popularity due to the constant temperature of the ground water.
Closed loops systems have distinguished features. They are efficient economical and prove to be extremely reliable. Antifreeze solution is passed through a series of pipes which are buried under the ground. The approximate length of the pipe depends upon the temperature and thermal conduction of the ground system, design and soil moisture. Due to the variation in the temperature the heat pump works efficiently with a bigger inlet.
